35 degrees out= two extension cords+ floor lamp + stubborn determination to CREATE! 

Yup, that's me. I started my Mom's Christmas gift today on my table saw inside the shed. (Decided against the space heater due to how much sawdust I was generating.) After an hour and a half I've got a good start and a big mess. Feels great!

My boyfriend innocently got out a puzzle. Not knowing that it becomes and obsession! Thankfully I've finished it now. On to making artwork!

Complete with sheet music angel wings and a map treasure box for each wise man. Yes, the Christ child is just head & pompom. Yes, one sheep keeps falling over. I had so much fun!

Unclutter 2014

DONE!

I have finished cleaning out the basement. If i have not made art out of it and it's been sitting there for over a year, then it is getting recycled, given away, or trashed. No more little stuff sitting around reminding me of all the projects I haven't done.

Now i will focus on art i CAN do. I will pursue this art with daily diligence. I will post the results here, hopefully weekly.

creativity jumpstart

Just finished the book Steal Like an Artist by Austin Kleon. You should read it! Even if you don't consider yourself "creative".

Needless to say I've been doing better at working out than producing art. But I will be carving out some time, attempt daily, to sketch and paint and make kinetic art. I'll try to do better at posting the art or doodles I make.

Quilt finished!

DONE! 

This quilt has fun memories on it but was a nightmare to make. Just don't look too close at craftsmanship. (the next one will better.) One 2014 Goal complete!

I have it together!

I'd love to say that about more than a quilt but... The quilt is finally together. In the coming weeks i shall quilt it. At this moment of mounting frustration i think it the worst quilt i have ever made. If and when i do another it will not be shirts and it will lay completely flat! For now I have triumphed in that

old t-shirt pillow sham

I wore this t-shirt in high school. I've always enjoyed the carefree attitude of the scarecrow and his surprise when he discovers his genius.
This fun loving character makes great summer decor.

First Frame

So when I got my table saw in June the first thing I made was this frame.

 The painting is "Kahn's Koi". It's a fantasy inspired by the dishes at IMA cafe, where I work.

house warming gift

My head Chef @ IMA cafe is a country girl. 

She is looking to buy a house, affordable, with land just outside of Marion county. 

My coworker Jennifer saw this prefab overpriced "art" while we were out once, looked at me and said "You should make one for Liz. We could give it to her as a house warming gift." I took a phone photo & wala. 

Built the frame out of old pallet wood. Stretched some old denim jeans for canvas. Free handed the lettering from the photo reference. 12 days start to finish. Wow do i feel good!

Purple Hippopotamus alert!

So i named my 1999 Dodge Caravan "purple hippopotamus" 

Ever since then my nieces & nephews have sent me pictures of hippos colored purple, etc. This time my oldest niece outdid herself. A crochet, custom made, purple hippopotamus!

So i'm not a terribly awesome photographer (& my camera is garage sale grade) but i liked this one alot.

Dinner 4 two

peace within

This piece has been in the works for quiet some time. I admit it, I was intimidated by it. But now it is finished! "Peace Within" is about how I can feel God's presence no matter what hurtful things are coming at me from all directions. True peace is from God.

small goals

The month of March has some BIG painting goals. Week one: finish butterfly 5x7. Goal accomplished!

February still life

This is my charcoal series of objects that are supposed  to give light, dead light bulbs, empty oil lamps, unlit candle, broken flashlight. To add some fun i painted little glow worms crawling around the bulbs and lamp oil reservoirs. One little guy is curled up like a candle flame, clowning around. Still life is good practice but they have to be fun too!

Tuesday art "class"

I've decided to set aside chunks of my week as if I had an art class to attend. Tuesday nights are now "art class' nights. This is my first drawing...

I'm toying with the idea of adding little glow worms with glow-in-the-dark paint. It would make it more fun!

All of my quilt blocks are cut! 

This memory quilt contains all kinds of prints, t-shirts, work polo, the infamous multicolored jacket, etc. It's a little bit of everything post-collage. Let's see if i can knock out this New Years resolution before it gets too warm to use it. 

plan 2014

After a huge day of sorting though all of my material horde with my nieces I have a plan for 2014. I will attempt three major sewing projects. And IF by the end of the year I have not used the material I must get rid of it! I'll keep you updated here on my blog as new art as it is made.
