Christmas break "art"

Yes i have been working over Christmas break. I went to Garfield Park Conservatory to sketch for a few hours. I finished another coloring page in the book my husband got me for my birthday. Lots of color and challenge in both activities.
Keep watching, I'll keep you up to date on what I create.

Birthday gift

So in my family you encourage whatever the children might be into. You never know what budding talent the life experience may bring. My eldest nephew wrote an installment of a novel when he was twelve. He asked me to illustrate it. He never finished the novel. I never finished the drawings.

Time passed and this nephew is now in his first year of college. I rediscovered the sketch for scene one. Two days before his December birthday the drawing I was working on turned into a painting. Needless to say his birthday present was delivered on Christmas.

November Corn

So i started this painting last year in November. I picked it up this week & look, it finished itself! November Corn is not a perfect life like painting, but a light impression of the Indian corn i bought from some enthusiastic tweens pretending to be entrepreneurial with the result of grandpas' garden coaching.

More seahorses

The second in the new seahorse series is finished! My new little guy is more photogenic than his hide&seek friends. (Fan coral is VERY hard to paint. Look it up on the internet.) I really enjoyed painting this set. If I ever do get to see the ocean I wouldn't mind looking for some of these beauties in the wild. If you want them to come live at your house please check them out on my Etsy site.

Hide & Seek Seahorses

Inspired by my sale of the first cutie seahorse, I began two seahorse paintings. This is the larger, fun one. A hide & seek painting is challenging because the background is painted first, then I have to figure out where the seahorses are hiding, then paint them in. Normal paintings are sketched and planned out before brush hits canvas.

Hide & Seek Seahorses 8 x10 acrylic.
Wait for it on Etsy for a picture with no glare.

Thanks PeirLuigi Demontis

Thank you to Getty Images & PeirLuigi Demontis for posting his AMAZING photo of onion &garlic. When i saw it i knew it would be hard but i had to paint it. Color making is still a struggle but this was great practice. It is not for sale but you can view it in my kitchen (where else?).

Pockets full of hope

Pockets full of hope.
These two denim canvas feature the christian symbols of hope and our national flag. The idea is to stick little notes of hope in the pockets, scripture verses etc., for when current events get you down.

If you want a pocket full of hope $15 please email me steelymarble@yahoo.com

hulloo neighbor

My neighbor hullooed over the fence. He wanted to compliment me on my commitment to doing a project when I have to set up the space, make the thing, then tear down the space. :-)

I worked with my table saw all afternoon under a shade tent. It is  a lot of work. But sometimes I haul the table saw out for one cut. So I felt great about making an entire project today.

a clear night
cooling myself under cherry trees
waves of flowers.

caffeine

THIS is what happens when I've had too much caffeine and everyone else is asleep. I went downstairs to my studio and painted the perfect messy background for my next graffiti style piece.

goals

You know the saying, "beg, steal, or borrow"? Well I borrowed this from an ugly college promo at Five Below. It's a good reminder at my age.
Happy creating!

Galatians 3: 22-23

This would look great as a mural but 16x20 will do for now.
My mom asked me how I was that hand lettering. Then I got inspired to do this Bible verse. There seems to be a lot of lawlessness right now. Perhaps if we could post scripture publicly ...people could be inspired?

i love power tools!

I got to use all three of my power tools in one day. I made a floating shelf for my bedroom. (English Ivy, makes oxygen at night.)

And this is what it looks like when I lay down to sleep.

Grace

I saw this quote first at Hobby Lobby. But every time I went to buy it they only had one scratched up item. So I came home and re-made one for myself.
The word "Grace" I wanted to look like a nebula... I don't feel like I succeeded, but happy with what I've created.

The drought is over!

Praise God!
As you may have noticed i have not been creating. Let's just say life is rough right now. In February part of my soul shut down. I tried to coax creativity by sketching in March but gave up entirely through April and May.
This weekend as i was walking with a friend God sent me this...

Questing Beast

I am reading the classic Our Now and Future King for the first time. When I got to the Questing Beast I just had to try my hand as drawing her.
This is the second chimera I've drawn. It's kind of a fun challenge. I understand why it got popular in the dark ages.
